1. Knife Defense techniques commonly taught in most systems will simply NOT work against a committed attack, create a false sense of security and make people focus on acquiring TECHNIQUES when they should be designing and running drills that cause them to develop ATTRIBUTES which increase their survivability. 2. The proper way of dealing with knife cannot be “defensive”, you MUST take the initiative and think in terms of pure OFFENSE if you want to minimize injury and increase survivability. Part of this series focuses on debunking typical Knife Defenses and creating realistic useful drills. - Every drill must have Escape BUILT IN as the number one priority! - Knife attacks are statistically more lethal than gun attacks yet no one trains in bullet dodging. Why? - No “system” or instructor will save you. Your individual skills and attributes MIGHT. - Make knife drills simple and tightly focused and find SAFE ways of upping the reality/combative pressure that allow skills to be developed. - ANY DEFENCE WILL WORK AGAINST A CRAP COMPLIANT ATTACK. - “POA”- where in the drill is the simulated “point of awareness” (the point at which you realise you are in a fight)? - ALL defences considered: grabbing wrists and “immobilising” (ho ho!), wrestling (whizzer) the knife arm, striking at the knife arm, kicking, counterpunching, trapping, chopping, slapping etc |
