Frequently Asked Questions

Why do you rent in full video sets?

We have found that most customers like the assurance of getting to view the entire series at one time and not having to wait for other DVDs in the series to come in. Also, most of our series were developed in a progressive manner, in that you should view Disc 1 before moving on to Disc 2 and so on. Renting full sets ensures you are able to view the videos as they were intended to be viewed.

Are there any membership fees for using Goldstar Video?

There are no membership fees required to rent or buy from Goldstar Video. You are only charged for the videos you rent or buy.

What is your selection like?

Goldstar Video has over 4,000 DVDs available to rent by mail.

How much does it cost?

Renting our DVD sets is currently between $4.79/DVD and $11.99/DVD for 30 days. This cost includes free, fast shipping both ways. Should you need to keep the DVD(s) for longer than 30 days, simply keep them and your account will be charged for another 30 days.

How fast will I receive my DVDs?

All DVDs ship first-class mail from our centrally-located facility in Missouri, which provides generally good service to the continental United States. Please refer to the map below for expected service times. Please be aware that the USPS does not guarantee these service times, but they are generally accurate. You are charged the day we ship videos to you; however, your rental perior ends the day you drop your videos at the post office.

Does Goldstar buy used DVDs?

Goldstar Video is looking to purchase used martial arts training DVDs. DVDs must be in good working order and must be an original DVD. Get started by contacting us with a list of DVDs you are willing to sell. (Goldstar Video takes copyright infringement extremely seriously and will take appropriate action when dealing with illegally created copies of videos.)

How can you legally rent videos?

We are often asked, "How can you do this? Isn't it illegal to rent these videos without permission from the martial artist who created them?" In a word, no, it is not.

The First Sale Doctrine, which is part of US Copyright Law, states that after the initial sale by the copyright holder - if the product is not a sound recording or a software program, in which case other restrictions apply - the buyer (Goldstar Video) can rent or resell the product, but cannot reproduce it or make derivative works from it without permission of the copyright holder.

This means Goldstar Video can rent the DVD to you, but you are still restricted from copying the DVDs. It is a felony to make copies of any video without permission from the copyright holder, punishable by up to ten (10) years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000. (Please note that while we believe this general information to be accurate, it should not be construed as legal advice.)

For more information, please visit the U.S. Library of Congress or Section 109 of U.S. Copyright Law.
